Peony ‘First Arrival’

Peony ‘First Arrival’ is an intersectional hybrid – a cross which marries the exotic looks of tree peonies with the herbaceous growth habit of herbaceous peonies, and often called an Itoh Peony. Between May and June, this hardy perennial bears large, luxuriant flowers that vary from deep pink to mauve. A stunning choice for cottage garden borders where it will also attract pollinating insects. Height: 75cm (29″). Spread: 90cm (36″).

Culinary note: The petals can be added to salads, or cooked slightly and sweetened for a treat. Peony water was also once considered a delicacy and the blooms can be floated in punches. For more details about edible flowers click here.
